Upcoming Weekend Events

Hello Visitor,

Thank you for subscribing to the Town of Stuyvesant newsletter.

This weekend will be our Annual Historic Stuyvesant Day celebration! Town Historian Juanita Knott, working with the Friends of Lindenwald, the Columbia County Tourism Board, and the American Legion Post #47, have an amazing celebration planned — honoring The Homecoming of President Martin Van Buren and Attorney General Benjamin Franklin Butler to Stuyvesant and Kinderhook.

The weekend will kick-off with the Railroad Station Restoration Committee’s monthly farmer’s market with the Corn Festival on Friday, August 12th at the Town Hall. Festivites will be held from 4-7pm, there will be food, all kinds of corn treats, and vendors — there may even be music!

The following morning will begin bright & early with the 10th Annual Ken Hummel Memorial Run. Over the years, the kids’ 1 Mile Chicken Run and a 5K Walk have been added. This year a new “Dualthon” is being incorporated into the event (a 5K Run, 24K Bike Ride — up through Kinderhook, then another 5K Run). We are hoping for a very successful event and perfect weather — grab a friend and come walk “the loop” — all profits are donated locally. Following the conclusion of the race, there will be an awards ceremony.

But the festivities are just getting started!

Then we will travel to the Stuyvesant Landing — Stuyvesant Fire District No. 1 / See Park for a program that will begin at 1:00pm with a concert of period and patriotic songs by the Ghent Band, historical displays, and the Historic Railroad Station will be open for viewing.

At 1:30 Martin Van Buren and Benjamin Franklin Butler will arrive at the dock in Stuyvesant. They will be greated with a musical and artillery welcome. The former President and Attorney General will be transported by horse & carriage to Kinderhook Square.

From 2:30 – 4:00 events will be held in the Kinderhook Town Square — music for welcoming speeches, food, games for children, and historical interpretations.

Later that evening, the Stuyvesant Fire Company will host their 20 Week Club Dinner — if you need a ticket, contact a member, they may still have them available — just to round out the busy day.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who have worked hard to bring what should be fun and delightful events for everyone.

Sincerely,
The Town of Stuyvesant
