August 2014

Hello Visitor,

Thank you for subscribing to the Town of Stuyvesant newsletter.

August is upon us and that means Historic Stuyvesant Day. To kick-off the celebration, the Railroad Station Restoration Committee will hold their annual Corn Festival at the Town Hall on Friday evening 4-7pm. There will be corn chowder, corn-on-the-cob, corn salad, corn bread and LIVE music (no, not Korn).

The 8th Annual Ken Hummel 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ 1 Mile Chicken Run will be held on Saturday, August 9th. Registration table will open at 8am. The kids’ race begins at 8:30 and the 5K starts at 9. Awards will be given out immediately following the conclusion of the race. Please come join in the fun — either as a participant or as a spectator. All late fees are waived and registration will remain at $15/person for the 5K Run/Walk until the 9th — then the price is $25. The price for the Kids’ 1 Mile Run will remain at $5.

PLEASE NOTE: County Route 26A (between Sharptown Road & State Route 9J) will be closed beginning at 8:20. Church Street, Gibbons Rd. & Summerset Roads will be CLOSED starting at 9:00 am. Opening of the roads will begin as the last of the participants go by. Traffic will be restricted, however, in the direction opposite the race. The volunteers from the Stuyvesant Fire Company will be providing traffic control.

Please plan your travel accordingly.

The annual Historic Stuyvesant Day Picnic will begin at 11am at See Park at the Landing. Bring a chair or blanket and a dessert to share. The theme this year is “Railroads, newspapers & letters at Stuyvesant during the Civil War”. Town Historian Juanita Knott has been accumulating a lot of interesting material to share.

The Town Clerk’s Office will be closed August 23rd – August 30th.

Sincerely,
The Town of Stuyvesant
