About the Climate Smart Committee
Climate Smart Communities (CSC) is a voluntary New York State program that helps local governments take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate. The program offers technical assistance and grants for town projects. On December 9, 2021 Stuyvesant took the first step toward becoming a Climate Smart Community by passing the CSC pledge as a resolution to join the program and become a registered CSC. Bill Schneider has been designated the town’s primary contact person for this program. Our resolution and application for registration are currently under review by the DEC.
After becoming a Registered CSC, our town can pursue certification actions at its own pace. There is no time limit between adoption of the pledge and commencement of the work, but we are anxious to get started. In this program towns like ours earn points toward various levels of certification (bronze, silver, and gold) by taking actions to address climate change. The CSC website describes the requirements for each level of certification and the documentation required to earn points. Visit this website to learn more about these actions: https://climatesmart.ny.gov/actions-certification/actions.
If you are interested in serving on the CSC task force and working with us to complete and document actions that mitigate and increase our ability to adapt to climate change, please contact Bill Schneider at 518-337-6669 and/or via email at [email protected].
The Climate Smart Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Stuyvesant Town Hall, 5 Sunset Drive, Stuyvesant, NY.
